| NEW YORK, NY (October 28, 2003) - Bazooka Joe?is having a birthday! This beloved comic kid has been a national treasure since his creation in 1953, when the Topps Company added a bit of comic flavor to its Bazooka Bubble Gum?with the first Bazooka Joe comic strips. To celebrate the big occasion, Topps is teaming up with Carolines on Broadway to give kids a chance to appear in their very own Bazooka Joe comic strip and win a $5,000 U.S. Savings Bond!
In keeping with the spirit of Bazooka Joe's classic American humor, Topps is hosting Bazooka Joe's 50th Birthday Wisecracking Kid Contest. This joke-telling contest for kids will take place on Saturday October 25, 2003 on the stage of the famous Carolines on Broadway in New York City. Kids ages 5 through 15 are invited to take the stage and tell their best joke to a panel of celebrity judges. Contestants will be scored based on Joke Originality (30%), Joke Delivery (30%), Costume (30%), and Embodiment of the Wisecracking Spirit of Bazooka Joe (10%). The Grand Prize winner will receive a $5,000 U.S. Savings Bond and a year's supply of Bazooka Bubble Gum. Also, the winner's name, likeness and winning joke may be included in a future Bazooka Joe comic!
To enter, contestants should come to Carolines on Broadway in New York City on Saturday, October 25th and sign up onsite. All contestants must be U.S. residents between the ages of 5 and 15 and be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Registration will run from 8:00 AM through 12:00 PM. The contest will begin at 10:00 AM, and the panel will judge as many contestants as possible between the hours of 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM.
