STORY

The 1979 Pirates made all OF Pittsburgh feel like one, big Happy “Fam-A-LEE” on their run to a World Series title. Willie “Pops” Stargell introduced the team to the song “We are Family” and it became a fight song that helped lead the never-say-die team to an epic World Series comeback. Dave “Cobra” Parker joined Pops to add power to the lineup, but the workhorse of the team was relief ace Kent Tekulve, who led the national league in relief appearances and notched a record three saves in the World Series.
